S&P Global is entering digital finance with the launch of the S&P Digital Markets 50 Index, a benchmark that combines cryptocurrencies and crypto-linked equities. The new index represents S&P’s first hybrid measure, bridging traditional markets with decentralized assets. The index will track 35 publicly traded firms involved in blockchain and digital-asset operations, alongside 15 leading cryptocurrencies from the S&P Cryptocurrency Broad Digital Market Index. Components must meet minimum capitalization thresholds—$100 million for equities and $300 million for cryptocurrencies—and individual weights are capped at 5%. Rebalancing will occur quarterly to maintain liquidity and diversification.
Cameron Drinkwater, Chief Product and Operations Officer at S&P Dow Jones Indices, said, “Digital assets have moved from the periphery into the financial mainstream. Our goal is to provide clear, rules-based tools for investors seeking reliable exposure to this expanding market.”
