PsiQuantum Breaks Ground on US Utility-Scale Quantum Computer
-

Quantum computing is taking a giant leap forward as PsiQuantum announces progress on its Chicago facility, set to house the first utility-scale quantum computer in the United States. The company raised 500 tons of steel in just six days at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, signaling rapid construction. PsiQuantum aims to deploy a million-qubit, fault-tolerant system, backed by $1 billion from its Series E funding round, and has also partnered with NVIDIA to advance its photonic chips and quantum architecture.
This move positions PsiQuantum at the forefront of large-scale quantum computing in the US, alongside competitors like IBM, which plans its Starling quantum computer by 2029. Experts say PsiQuantum’s progress marks a major milestone, demonstrating that the era of massive quantum systems is fast approaching.
