Vitalik Buterin Targets Base Layer Scalability and ZK-EVM Future
-

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is now turning attention toward strengthening the base layer itself. While Ethereum’s rollup-centric scaling strategy has drawn criticism—especially as competitors like Tron and Solana lead in network fees—Buterin has proposed reducing reliance on rollups by improving core protocol efficiency. Planned upgrades include parallel block verification, gas cost alignment with execution time, and gradual implementation of a zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (ZK-EVM).
The roadmap also addresses long-term security in a quantum computing era. Buterin acknowledged the challenges of quantum-resistant signatures but outlined solutions involving recursive proof aggregation and optimized cryptographic math to manage gas costs. Though Ethereum’s scalability journey is ongoing, its first-mover advantage, decentralization, and institutional trust suggest the network remains strategically positioned for the next wave of crypto adoption.
