Ethereum Should Work Even If Builders Walk Away

Vitalik Buterin says Ethereum needs to reach a point where its value doesn’t rely on continuous developer intervention. In a recent post, he argued that the protocol should remain useful even if active development were to stop, meaning its core features must already be fully embedded and dependable.
He compared Ethereum to a hammer: once you have it, it keeps working without ongoing support. According to Buterin, long-term trust in Ethereum comes from making the protocol itself complete, durable, and resilient—rather than dependent on constant upgrades or new features.
