Coinbase Cuts a Critical Lifeline for Argentine Savers
-

Coinbase is suspending peso-based services in Argentina, cutting off direct conversions between local currency and dollar-backed stablecoins starting January 31. Users have been given 30 days to withdraw funds, after which peso-to-crypto purchases and bank withdrawals will no longer be available.
The move hits particularly hard in a country where inflation has remained in triple digits and stablecoins are less a speculative asset than a financial necessity. For many Argentines, platforms like Coinbase served as a fast exit from the peso — a role that now disappears with the loss of local fiat rails.
