Visa and Bridge Begin Testing Onchain Stablecoin Settlement
-

Beyond geographic expansion, Visa and Bridge are now piloting onchain settlement for card transactions. Previously, Bridge processed payments by converting users’ stablecoins into fiat before settlement. Under the new model — supported by Lead Bank — transactions can be settled directly in stablecoins onchain, reducing reliance on traditional banking rails and potentially increasing settlement speed and transparency.
Visa is also exploring support for Bridge-issued programmable stablecoins, which differ from established tokens like Tether USDt and USD Coin by allowing businesses to create and manage their own custom digital dollars. The move signals Visa’s broader strategy to integrate stablecoins deeper into global payments, positioning blockchain-based settlement as a core part of its future infrastructure.
