South Korea Moves Crypto Surveillance to AI

South Korea is upgrading its cryptocurrency market oversight with AI-driven surveillance. The Financial Supervisory Service’s VISTA system now uses algorithms to automatically detect suspicious trading activity — from unusual volume surges to coordinated account networks — replacing much of the manual monitoring previously required.

The AI employs a sliding-window grid search, scanning overlapping time segments to catch anomalies that could indicate manipulation. Regulators plan further upgrades through 2026, including tracing the origin of funds behind manipulative trades and analyzing abnormal promotional activity across thousands of crypto assets.
