Base App Pivots to a Trading-First Strategy

Coinbase’s on-chain ecosystem Base is shifting direction, moving from a social-heavy experience toward a trading-first vision. Since its July 2025 launch, the Base app has attracted hundreds of thousands of users, but feedback revealed that its social feed felt too close to Web2 and didn’t fully surface the growing universe of on-chain assets.

According to Base creator Jesse Pollak, the new strategy puts trading at the center of the user experience, with social features layered on top rather than driving the app. The goal is to increase demand and distribution for tradable assets ranging from protocols and apps to stocks, predictions, memes, and creator coins.
