Why Did SUI Experience a Network Blockage?
-

The recent blockage on Sui was caused by a consensus-layer issue, which temporarily prevented validators from agreeing on the next set of transactions to process. In simple terms, the network couldn’t finalize new blocks, so transactions stalled even though funds remained safe. While the Sui Foundation confirmed that the chain was fully restored after nearly six hours, it has not publicly disclosed the precise technical trigger behind the outage.
This kind of issue can happen on high-throughput blockchains like Sui, which prioritize speed and parallel transaction execution. That design allows for fast performance under normal conditions, but it can also introduce complexity at the consensus level. When an unexpected edge case appears—such as validator coordination problems or software bugs—the network may need to pause briefly while developers deploy a fix.
