SWIFT to Build Blockchain Payments on Ethereum Layer 2 Linea
-

SWIFT has confirmed it will build its new 24/7 real-time crypto payments system on Ethereum layer 2 Linea, Consensys CEO Joe Lubin revealed at Token2049. The project involves over 30 major banks, including Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan, and TD Bank, and aims to modernize SWIFT’s $150 trillion annual global payment network.

SWIFT goes crypto-native: its new $150T+ payment rail will run on Consensys’ Ethereum L2, Linea.
Backed by 30+ banks (Citi, JPMorgan, BofA, TD), the system will enable 24/7 real-time settlement — a seismic shift for TradFi infrastructure. -
By choosing Linea, SWIFT is bridging DeFi scalability with global banking trust.
If successful, this could accelerate Ethereum adoption, rival Ripple’s XRPL, and redefine how trillions move across borders.
