EU’s Chat Control Proposal Blocked Again

The European Union’s push to mandate scanning of private messages has been stopped once again.
A controversial backdoor — introduced by the Danish EU Presidency — has been removed from the latest draft of the “Regulation to Prevent and Combat Child Sexual Abuse.”

A new line in the proposal states:
“Nothing in this Regulation should be understood as imposing any detection obligations on providers.”

Digital rights advocates say this wording effectively blocks forced client-side scanning, marking another win for privacy supporters after Germany previously halted the draft.

However, the bill still moves through the legislative process, with COREPER II expected to endorse it next.
