Apple must pay masimo $634m for patent infringement
-

A federal jury in California ruled that Apple must pay $634 million to Masimo after finding that Apple Watch features violated Masimo’s blood oxygen monitoring patent.
Masimo called the ruling a major win for protecting medical innovation, while Apple said it will appeal, arguing the patent was old and expired in 2022.
The case centers on pulse oximetry tech and claims that Apple poached Masimo staff.
The ITC had already banned imports of Apple Watches with SpO₂ features, prompting Apple to redesign the system by moving calculations to the iPhone. -
Apple may have to rethink future health sensor designs to avoid repeat cases.
