What’s the Weirdest Thing a Freelance Client Has Ever Asked You To Do? 🤯😂
-
Every freelancer has that one client story. You know the one — where you stare at the email or DM and think: “Am I being punk’d right now?”
I’ll kick things off:
One of my first clients asked me to design a full website AND write all the copy… for $25. Oh, and they wanted it done “by tomorrow morning.” When I politely declined, they replied with: “But it should be easy for you — you’re creative!”
Why I’m Posting This:
Freelancing is full of absurd, funny, and sometimes downright painful stories. Let’s laugh about them (or cry together).
Have you ever had a client ask for unlimited revisions until the project resembled their cat’s doodles?
Or asked you to work for “exposure”?
Or maybe something so bizarre it actually made you laugh out loud?
Your Turn:
What’s the weirdest / funniest / most ridiculous request you’ve ever had from a freelance client? -
Oh man, I’ve got one that still makes me shake my head. A client once asked me to “make the logo bigger… but not look bigger.” I asked what they meant, and they said: “You’re the designer, you figure it out.” 🤯 Ended up realizing they just wanted it to “pop more” without actually scaling the size. So yeah… apparently, my job was to defy the laws of physics.

I once had a client who kept asking for revisions on a social media graphic because “the color blue doesn’t feel blue enough.” I tried changing shades, saturation, contrast — nothing worked. Finally, I asked them to send me an example of “blue that feels blue.” They sent me… a picture of the sky.
At that point, I knew I was in too deep.

Once had a client who hired me to write product descriptions for his “luxury brand.”
When he sent me the reference material, it was literally links to ALIEXPRESS socks. 🧦
He wanted me to “make them sound like Rolex-level premium.”
After I sent the first draft, he replied:
“Great — now can you also design me a logo, packaging, and a Shopify store? I can’t pay extra, but think about how good this will look in your portfolio.”
Safe to say… I politely ghosted. -
One client once asked me to edit a 2-minute video.
When I delivered, he said: “Looks nice… but can you make it 45 minutes long and add 3D animations like Pixar?” 🤯
I told him that would be a completely different project, he insisted it should be “just a quick adjustment.”
The best part? He offered to pay an extra $5 for the upgrade.
To this day, whenever I watch a Pixar movie, I remember that client.
