A letter from OpenAI’s Chris Lehane to the White House has revealed the company’s push for expanded government support in AI infrastructure.OpenAI urged the Biden administration to broaden the 35% Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit (AMIC) — currently limited to semiconductor fabrication — to include AI servers, electrical grid components, and data centers.
Lehane wrote that doing so would “lower the cost of capital and unlock private investment” to accelerate America’s AI buildout. The company also called for faster permitting and a strategic reserve of key raw materials like copper and rare earth minerals.
