Google has removed its AI model Gemma from its AI Studio after U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn accused the system of fabricating defamatory claims about her.
Blackburn’s letter to CEO Sundar Pichai described the AI-generated falsehoods as “an act of defamation.”
Google responded that Gemma was never intended for consumer use, saying misuse of the model for factual questions led to the decision to restrict access.
The company continues to offer Gemma via API for developers.
