New World Faces Inevitable Shutdown, But Live Services Continue (For Now)

New World: Aeternum may soon head toward its endgame. While Amazon Games hasn’t announced a shutdown date, the developers admitted that closure is “inevitable.”

Until then, server merges, bug fixes, and limited events will continue post–Season 10. The game, originally launched in September 2021, received its definitive edition in 2024, expanding to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The decision comes amid Amazon’s reported layoffs, affecting roughly 30,000 jobs — including in its gaming division.

Sad to see another MMO fade away, but at least they’re keeping the lights on a bit longer for the loyal players. ️
