Cloudflare CEO Urges Stricter Rules on Google’s AI Data Practices

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince is calling for stronger regulation of Google’s AI data collection practices, arguing that Google uses its search crawler to unfairly gain access to content for AI products.Speaking at the Bloomberg Tech Conference in London, Prince said Google’s approach forces websites to either allow crawling for both search and AI, or lose search visibility — a “non-starter” for media outlets that rely on ad revenue.
Prince praised the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for giving Google “special status,” allowing regulators to impose tougher oversight on its AI and search businesses.
