Waymo & DoorDash Launch Autonomous Delivery Pilot

Waymo is entering the autonomous delivery space with DoorDash through a strategic, multi-year partnership in Phoenix. Self-driving Waymo vehicles will deliver orders from DashMart convenience and grocery stores within a 315-square-mile area.

Customers will retrieve their groceries from the trunk of driverless Jaguars via the DoorDash app. Over time, the program will expand to more local merchants and offerings.

DoorDash previously tested autonomous delivery with Serve Robotics and its own in-house Dot bots, but this pilot exclusively uses Waymo vehicles. The trial will assess whether the novelty of robot deliveries outweighs traditional human hand-offs.
