OpenAI Pauses MLK Videos on Sora
-
OpenAI has paused the ability to generate AI videos of Martin Luther King Jr. in Sora after the civil rights leader’s estate raised concerns about disrespectful depictions.
OpenAI: “While there are strong free speech interests in depicting historical figures, public figures and their families should ultimately have control over how their likeness is used.”
The move follows a wave of criticism over crude AI videos on Sora, including offensive portrayals of MLK, Malcolm X, and other cultural icons. Dr. Bernice King had publicly asked users to stop sending her AI versions of her father. This is one of the first high-profile cases where a family estate has stepped in to influence how AI likenesses are handled.
