OpenAI Could Spend $50–60B Per Gigawatt on AI Data Centers, Nvidia’s Huang Says
-

As part of its deepening ties with Nvidia, OpenAI is preparing for a future where it runs its own “self-hosted hyperscaler,” CEO Jensen Huang revealed this week. Nvidia will directly supply OpenAI with systems, networking, and GPUs — beyond existing cloud partnerships. However, Huang cautioned that OpenAI doesn’t yet have the funding to fully pay for its infrastructure, estimating each gigawatt of AI data center capacity could cost $50–60 billion for land, power, servers, and equipment. -
That’s an unbelievable scale of investment. It shows how serious AI infrastructure has become for global tech giants.

Spending $60B per gigawatt signals the growing power demand of AI. The future of tech is being built on electricity and GPUs.
