Nvidia’s Huang Surprised by OpenAI–AMD Deal Amid $100B Nvidia Investment
-

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he was caught off guard by OpenAI’s multibillion-dollar partnership with AMD, announced shortly after Nvidia itself agreed to invest up to $100 billion in the AI model maker. Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Huang admitted he had little prior knowledge of the deal. Unlike Nvidia’s direct investment in OpenAI, AMD will grant OpenAI stock — up to 10% of its company over several years — in exchange for developing its next-generation AI chips. Huang added that Nvidia will continue supplying OpenAI through cloud providers while also preparing the startup to eventually run its own hyperscale data centers.
