The UK government has created a Creative Freelance Champion role within the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, aiming to support the country’s 2.4 million creative workers, many of whom are freelancers. The creative sector contributes £124.6 billion to the economy, but freelancers often face challenges like IR35 tax rules, pensions, and difficulty obtaining mortgages.
Jon Williams, CEO of The Liberty Guild, calls the role a step in the right direction, though he notes its powers may be limited.
