OpenAI’s Sora Video App Becomes Viral Hit at Launch

OpenAI’s new Sora app for AI-generated videos has rocketed up the charts despite being invite-only. According to Appfigures, Sora saw 56,000 downloads on its first day and 164,000 in its first two days on iOS. It’s now ranked No. 3 among all U.S. App Store apps.

The app’s launch puts it ahead of other high-profile AI releases like Anthropic’s Claude and Microsoft’s Copilot, and on par with xAI’s Grok. Only OpenAI’s own ChatGPT app and Google’s Gemini had stronger debuts.

Sora’s invite-only status in the U.S. and Canada may have limited its reach, but the numbers indicate strong consumer demand for AI-powered video tools with social features.
