Heads up, creators and AI nerds — Google just added video generation from still images to Google Photos and YouTube Shorts! The rollout’s just starting in the U.S., but it’s another big step in turning your static shots into mini-movies.
🧠 In Google Photos:New feature: Photo to Video
Powered by Veo 2, this lets you turn a single image into a 6-second AI-generated video.You’ve got two prompt choices:
“Subtle movements” – think gentle motion like wind or light flicker “I’m feeling lucky” – leave it up to the AI’s imagination
Available now on Android and iOS (U.S. only for now)
Also coming soon:
A Remix feature that applies stylized effects to photos — like comic book or anime vibes. Rolling out in the coming weeks.
In YouTube Shorts:
New tools incoming this week for users in:
U.S.
Canada
Australia
New Zealand
What’s new?
Generate short videos from a single image AI-powered visual effects — e.g., underwater scenes, stylized transitions
These also use Veo 2, with Veo 3 planned for launch summer 2025, bringing even more advanced creative power to Shorts.
