Pokemon TCG Live Is Getting a Brand New Build and Battle Mode Starting May 21
-

Pokemon TCG Live is introducing its first limited-style game mode with the launch of Build and Battle, debuting alongside the Chaos Rising expansion on May 21. To participate, players spend Event Tokens to enter a run, receiving a ready-to-play 40-card deck built around a specific Pokemon or playstyle along with four booster packs from the featured set. Players can swap cards from those packs into their deck before jumping into matches, adding a light deckbuilding layer to what is otherwise a casual, accessible format. Each run lasts five matches, with players earning booster packs and Trainer Points at the end based on their record. The Chaos Rising event runs from May 21 through June 4, and players will receive at least one free run per week throughout the event.Event Tokens needed for entry can be obtained through the in-game shop, gifts, passcodes, or by purchasing physical Build and Battle Boxes, giving both digital-only players and physical TCG fans a way to participate.
The mode is directly inspired by pre-release events from the physical Pokemon TCG, where players have long used pre-built decks and a handful of packs to compete against others in a more level playing field than constructed formats allow. For Pokemon TCG Live, it represents a meaningful expansion of how players can engage with each new set beyond simply adding cards to existing decks, and it gives newer players a lower-barrier entry point into competitive play without needing a fully built Standard format deck.
