Fujifilm's $175 Instax Wide 400 takes the beloved instant camera formula and expands it in the most literal way possible: larger prints. Producing 62 x 99mm photos — roughly twice the size of standard Instax Mini prints — the Wide 400 is built for the shots where fitting more of the scene actually matters, from group photos to sweeping landscapes. The camera is a pure point-and-shoot with no manual exposure controls whatsoever. You rotate the lens to power on, choose between close-up mode for subjects within three meters and landscape mode for anything beyond that, frame your shot, and press the button. That is the entire user experience, and for what it is designed to do, the simplicity works well. In good lighting conditions, the results are genuinely impressive — accurate colors, solid detail, and the kind of extra saturation that makes instant prints feel vivid and characterful rather than flat. A close-up lens attachment that snaps onto the front helps avoid the focus and blur issues that typically plague instant cameras at short distances, and it is effective enough that close-up shots become reliably usable rather than hit-or-miss.
The trade-offs are what you would expect from a fully automatic camera at this price point. In high-contrast scenes, such as dark trees against a bright sky, detail tends to blur together and there is nothing you can do about it since the camera controls all exposure decisions.

The size is also worth flagging: at 162 x 98 x 123mm and 1.4 pounds, this is a noticeably bulky camera that requires a bag rather than a pocket and demands some care in crowded spaces. The shoulder strap helps, but the Wide 400 is a deliberate carry rather than a casual one. On the positive side, the bulkiness comes with a certain presence — the green colorway in particular gives it a playful aesthetic that attracted genuine compliments during testing. The self-timer is a well-implemented feature, offering two to ten second countdowns with audio and visual cues, and the strap accessories that double as camera props make group shots without a tripod genuinely manageable. Film costs $25 to $28 for 20 sheets across several frame options including white, black, metallic, and monochrome. For anyone who wants bigger, better instant prints without any learning curve, the Wide 400 delivers exactly what it promises.

$28 for 20 shots means every press of the shutter button costs $1.40
