Perplexity's Personal Computer Is Now Available to All Mac Users — Here's What It Does

Perplexity has opened up its Personal Computer feature to all Mac users through a new desktop app, removing the waitlist and Max-subscriber restriction that limited access since its introduction last month. Personal Computer is designed to bring Perplexity's cloud-based AI agent capabilities directly onto your local device, giving AI agents access to your local files, native Mac applications, web browsing, and over 400 connectors — all within a secure development environment running on Perplexity's servers. The goal is to handle personal, multi-step workflows that span across multiple apps and file types: think comparing two documents from different applications, pulling notes from one app to generate a draft in another, or managing spreadsheets and project materials that live across your system. Perplexity describes it as taking its digital worker out of the "cloud-only world and onto the device where most of your real work already takes place." Anyone can download the new Mac app, though Personal Computer itself requires a Pro or Max subscription. The older Perplexity Mac app will be deprecated in the coming weeks as the team consolidates around the new version, which is currently available as a direct download only and is not yet in the Mac App Store.
