Until Dawn 2 May Be in Development at Firesprite and Here Is the Evidence Behind the Rumor
-

A deleted Reddit post has sparked renewed speculation that Until Dawn 2 is in development and will release as a PlayStation exclusive, with a trail of circumstantial evidence pointing to Sony-owned studio Firesprite as the likely developer. The original post claimed the sequel has been in development since 2021 and will feature DualSense integration including blowing into the microphone to remove dust from in-game artifacts, suggesting the team is building specifically around PS5 hardware capabilities. While the post was removed, Reddit user lululemon_fan091 preserved the claims and connected several dots: PlayStation acquired Firesprite in 2021, the studio employs multiple former Supermassive Games staffers, and the team is currently working on an unannounced project with the code name Heartbreak. Previous rumors had described Heartbreak as a horror game based on an established PlayStation property, which fits Until Dawn precisely.None of this has been officially confirmed by PlayStation, and fans should treat all of it as educated speculation until an announcement is made.
However, the broader context supports the likelihood that a sequel exists. PlayStation released an Until Dawn remake on PS5 in 2024 through Ballistic Moon, added new story sequences to that remake suggesting future narrative expansion, and produced a film adaptation in 2025, all of which reflect genuine investment in the property rather than passive ownership of a legacy title. Ballistic Moon was subsequently closed in March 2026, which combined with the Firesprite evidence suggests development of the sequel may have moved to a different internal studio before the remake team was wound down.
