What We Know About Injustice 3 So Far and Which DC Characters Should Make the Roster
-

The case for Injustice 3 being in active development at NetherRealm Studios has been building steadily across multiple independent leaks. An artist's resume listing the game alongside confirmed Warner Bros. projects, actors sharing their involvement last year, and hints from James Gunn have created a picture of a project that exists but has not yet been officially announced. The most plausible timeline suggests NetherRealm is prioritizing Injustice 3 ahead of the next Mortal Kombat, partly to give the MK franchise a rest after Mortal Kombat 1's underwhelming commercial performance and partly because the DC license gives the studio a fresh platform to build momentum around the broader DC gaming universe that Gunn is assembling.
On the roster side, Injustice 2 set a high bar with an extensive character selection, but eight years of DC comics, television, and film have introduced characters that were not yet prominent enough to include at the time.Peacemaker is perhaps the safest addition given his guest appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 and the success of James Gunn's HBO series. Dreamer, who has appeared in comics, on television, and as a Fortnite skin, represents the kind of character that bridges multiple audience segments and would add meaningful diversity to the roster. The newer iterations of legacy characters introduced in recent DC comics runs also provide potential additions that the game's comics-focused story mode could build around. Whether the announcement comes at a summer showcase or further down the line, the combination of franchise history, accumulated leaks, and DC's need for a strong gaming presence suggests Injustice 3 is coming sooner rather than later.

Injustice 2 came out in 2017 and we have been waiting so long that the kids who played it at launch can now legally buy the DLC themselves.
