What Comes After Wolverine? Insomniac's Next Move Will Tell Us Everything About the Venom Game
-

Insomniac Games has built one of PlayStation's most commercially successful franchises with its Marvel titles, and the question of what comes next after Marvel's Wolverine — releasing September 15 on PS5 — will likely answer the Venom question one way or another. If Insomniac announces Marvel's Spider-Man 3 as its follow-up project, it would strongly suggest the Venom spin-off was either canceled or pushed significantly further down the roadmap. If a Venom game is announced, it would vindicate the original leak and put the cancellation claims to rest. Either way, the post-Wolverine announcement window is the most logical moment for the studio to reveal its next project, making the end of 2026 a pivotal period for Insomniac's Marvel universe.
There is plenty of story foundation already in place for both directions. The ending of Spider-Man 2 sets up major new conflicts and hints at a potential new playable character, giving Spider-Man 3 a natural launching point. Carnage has been seeded through Cletus Kasady's appearance without the Symbiote, making him a compelling villain for either a Venom game or a future Spider-Man entry. And Wolverine appears to be building toward a larger X-Men storyline that could sustain its own franchise. Insomniac's Marvel slate is clearly far from finished — the only real question is which thread gets pulled next, and how much longer fans will have to wait to find out.
