Nothing Launches Essential Voice — A System-Level AI Dictation Tool With 100+ Language Support

Hardware company Nothing has entered the fast-growing AI dictation space with the launch of Essential Voice, a system-level tool that works across any app to convert speech into clean, formatted text. Like competing apps such as Wispr Flow and Superwhisper, Essential Voice strips out filler words like "um" and "ah" automatically. What sets it apart is its deep system integration and the ability to create custom voice shortcuts — for example, saying "my address" to instantly insert your full address, or assigning shortcuts to links, templates, and repeated phrases.

The tool also supports real-time translation across more than 100 languages at launch, with app-based custom styling coming soon, meaning users will eventually be able to set different AI tones for different contexts like work emails versus casual messaging. To activate it, users either press the dedicated Essential key or trigger it directly from the keyboard. Currently available on the Phone (3), rollout to the Phone (4a) Pro is planned for later this month, with Phone (4a) support arriving next month.

Nothing is among the first companies to offer dictation at the system level rather than as a standalone app, a meaningful distinction that makes the feature feel native rather than bolted on. With Google quietly releasing its own offline dictation tool earlier this month, the race to own voice input on mobile is clearly heating up — and Essential Voice puts Nothing firmly in the conversation.
