US Sanctions Hit Cambodian Scam Network Over “Pig Butchering” Operations
-

The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned Cambodian Senator Kok An and 28 other individuals tied to large-scale scam operations running across casinos and office parks in Cambodia. According to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the network operated “pig butchering” scams that have collectively drained billions of dollars from victims, including many in the United States. These schemes typically involve long-term social engineering where scammers build trust with victims before encouraging them to invest in fraudulent platforms or transfer funds. Authorities say the centers were embedded within legitimate-looking business environments, making detection more difficult.
The move is part of a broader U.S. crackdown on Southeast Asian scam infrastructure, which continues to be a major source of global crypto-related fraud losses.
