Google Workspace Gets Major AI Upgrade
-

At its Cloud Next event, Google unveiled a new wave of AI-powered features for its Workspace suite, signaling a deeper push into workplace automation. The highlight is “Workspace Intelligence,” an integrated AI system that connects across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Drive to assist users with everyday tasks. By pulling from a user’s own data, the system can offer contextual help — like drafting emails, summarizing documents, or organizing schedules.Importantly, Google says users will have control over what data the AI can access. This creates a tradeoff: the more access you grant, the more useful the system becomes. It’s a clear attempt to balance personalization with privacy, especially as concerns grow around how AI tools handle sensitive workplace information.
The broader goal is simple — reduce repetitive work and make productivity tools feel more proactive rather than reactive. Instead of manually jumping between apps, users get an assistant that works across everything.
