Fake Ledger App Costs Musician Over $400K in Bitcoin
-

Musician Garrett Dutton, known as G. Love, lost nearly 6 BTC after downloading a fake version of Ledger Live from the Apple App Store. Believing the app was legitimate, he entered his 24-word recovery phrase—instantly giving attackers full access to his wallet and allowing them to drain funds worth over $424,000.
The incident highlights a critical rule in crypto security: never share or input your seed phrase on any device or app. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT later traced the stolen funds to exchange-linked wallets, but recovery is unlikely. The case serves as a stark reminder that even official app stores are not immune to malicious software.
