ECB Unveils Appia Roadmap to Build Tokenized Financial Markets
-

The European Central Bank has introduced the Appia roadmap, a long-term strategy aimed at developing tokenized wholesale financial markets across Europe backed by central bank money. The initiative outlines how today’s financial infrastructure could evolve into a blockchain-based ecosystem where transactions settle directly using central bank funds.
A key part of the plan is Pontes, a distributed ledger technology settlement system designed to connect tokenized market infrastructure with the existing financial system. According to Piero Cipollone, a member of the ECB’s executive board, the project is intended to create a bridge between the current financial system and the next generation of tokenized markets.
