The company says reports by The Wall Street Journal are false and has filed a defamation lawsuit against the publication in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeking damages and legal fees.The dispute comes amid broader regulatory scrutiny of the exchange. In 2023, Binance pleaded guilty to violations involving anti-money-laundering and sanctions laws, paying a $4.3 billion fine. Former CEO Changpeng Zhao later served four months in prison in 2024 before receiving a pardon from Donald Trump in 2025.
