Magic Eden Shuts Down Bitcoin and Ethereum NFT Support to Bet Big on Online Gambling
-

Solana-based NFT marketplace Magic Eden is officially winding down support for Bitcoin and Ethereum-based assets as it pivots toward online gambling. CEO and co-founder Jack Lu announced that the platform will end support for its Ethereum Virtual Machine and Bitcoin Runes and Ordinals marketplaces on March 9, followed by its Bitcoin API on March 27 and its crypto wallet on April 1. The company will also discontinue its NFT buyback program as part of the transition.
Instead, Magic Eden is doubling down on its new on-chain casino and upcoming sportsbook, Dicey. Lu described a “massive opportunity” in iGaming, highlighting that Dicey’s two-month-old closed beta has already attracted 200 users who wagered more than $15 million. Calling it the beginning of a new era where finance and entertainment merge, Lu said he is “incredibly bullish” on the platform’s future.
