Gate Secures Malta Payment License to Expand EU Operations

Crypto exchange Gate.io has secured a Payment Institution license in Malta under the European Union’s PSD2 framework, giving the company a regulated pathway to offer payment services across the bloc. The license was granted to its Malta-based entity, Gate Technology, by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), strengthening Gate’s foothold in Europe beyond crypto trading and custody.

The approval adds payment capabilities to Gate’s existing authorization under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), obtained in October 2025. With PSD2 clearance, Gate can passport regulated payment services throughout EU member states, enabling fiat and stablecoin transaction infrastructure alongside its digital asset exchange services.
