Former California Candidate Banned From Kalshi for Betting on Himself
-

Prediction market platform Kalshi has banned a former California gubernatorial contender after he placed bets on his own election outcome, violating the platform’s insider trading rules. According to Kalshi’s head of enforcement, the politician wagered roughly $200 on his candidacy and publicly shared the bet on X, leading to a five-year suspension and a $2,000 fine. The case was also reported to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Although Kalshi did not officially name the individual, the description matches Kyle Langford, a former Republican turned Democrat who is now running for Congress in California’s 26th District. Kalshi stated that no profits were withdrawn from the account but emphasized that candidates betting on their own races undermines market integrity and violates platform rules.
