Nvidia Signals OpenAI Deal Progress, Warns of China Competition
-

Beyond blockbuster earnings, Nvidia used its investor call to address its reported $30 billion potential investment in OpenAI. CEO Jensen Huang said the company is “close” to reaching a partnership agreement, while regulatory filings stressed there is no guarantee a deal will be finalized. Huang also highlighted collaborations with Anthropic, Meta, and xAI as part of Nvidia’s expanding AI ecosystem.
At the same time, the company acknowledged rising competition from Chinese AI chipmakers, referencing firms such as Moore Threads following its recent IPO. Huang dismissed concerns about whether massive AI capital expenditures are sustainable, arguing that compute directly drives revenue in the new AI economy. “Without compute, there’s no way to generate tokens,” he said, framing AI infrastructure not as speculative spending, but as the backbone of future profitability.
