Rosalina, Yoshi & More: Mario’s Galaxy Sequel Expands the Universe

Beyond the rumored arrival of Wario, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is preparing to significantly expand the Mushroom Kingdom’s cinematic universe. Rosalina will serve as one of the sequel’s key new characters, voiced by Academy Award winner Brie Larson. Bowser Jr. is also confirmed to play a major antagonistic role, marking his big-screen debut in the Illumination franchise.

Recent teasers have hinted at even more additions, including Birdo, Mouser, and Lakitu, while Luigi is expected to take on a much larger role after spending much of the first film captured by Bowser. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has described the sequel as the “main event” of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebration. Alongside the movie, Nintendo has released Switch ports of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, plus new titles including Mario Tennis Fever and a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder — making 2026 a massive year for Mario fans.
