Empowerment vs. Efficiency: The Industry’s AI Crossroads
-

AI in filmmaking presents both liberation and risk. On one hand, it democratizes access, allowing small teams — or even solo artists — to produce ambitious visuals. On the other, it raises fears about job displacement, copyright violations, and an industry increasingly obsessed with speed and cost-cutting.
Many filmmakers acknowledge the tension. Ideally, AI would complement actors, cinematographers, and designers rather than replace them. But if artists don’t actively shape how these tools are used, studios may define the future around efficiency instead of artistry. The question isn’t whether AI belongs in filmmaking — it’s already here. The real question is what kind of creative ecosystem will survive alongside it.
