65% of 2025 Crypto Incidents Linked to Social Engineering: AMLBot
-

Roughly two-thirds of crypto incidents investigated in 2025 were driven by social engineering rather than technical exploits, according to blockchain analytics firm AMLBot. The company’s report, based on around 2,500 internal investigations, found that 65% of reviewed cases involved access and response failures — such as compromised devices, weak verification practices, or delayed detection — instead of flaws in blockchains or smart contracts.
Investment scams led the list at 25% of total cases, followed by phishing attacks at 18% and device compromises at 13%. The findings suggest that even as blockchain infrastructure becomes more secure, attackers are increasingly bypassing protocol-level defenses by targeting users directly. According to AMLBot, strengthening personal security habits may be just as important as improving code when it comes to preventing crypto losses.
