Clawdbot evolves into OpenClaw
-

The viral personal AI assistant formerly known as Clawdbot has officially rebranded as OpenClaw. After a brief stint as Moltbot following a legal challenge from Anthropic, creator Peter Steinberger ensured the new name avoids copyright issues and reflects the project’s growth.
With over 100,000 GitHub stars in just two months, OpenClaw is no longer a solo project. Community-driven offshoots like Moltbook — a Reddit-like hub for AI assistants — are already flourishing, enabling AI agents to interact, share skills, and automate tasks.
Security remains a top priority. Early users are warned to run OpenClaw in controlled environments only, as vulnerabilities like prompt injection persist. Sponsorship tiers now support maintainers, helping the project scale responsibly.

sponsors stepping in is good, hopefully maintainers don’t burn out with all this hype
