Meta has pushed back against a newly filed lawsuit alleging that WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption is misleading and fails to protect user privacy.

In a post on X on Monday, Meta communications director Andy Stone denied the claims, calling them “categorically false and absurd,” and describing the lawsuit as a “frivolous work of fiction.” He reiterated that WhatsApp’s encryption ensures only senders and recipients can read messages.

The lawsuit was filed Friday in a US federal court in San Francisco by WhatsApp users from several countries, including Australia, India, Mexico, and South Africa. Plaintiffs argue Meta misled users into believing their communications were fully private and are seeking damages.

Meta has not issued a formal court filing response but continues to state publicly that it cannot access encrypted WhatsApp messages.
