CZ Rules Out Return to Binance After Presidential Pardon
-

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao says he has no plans to return to the crypto exchange, despite receiving a presidential pardon that removed previous restrictions. Speaking to CNBC from Davos, Zhao said the pardon fully lifted limitations tied to his earlier conviction but made clear he prefers to remain stepped back.
Zhao pleaded guilty in 2023 to failing to maintain an effective anti–money laundering program and later served a four-month prison sentence, which also barred him from working at Binance. Although the pardon reopened that possibility, Zhao said his departure after seven years was ultimately the right decision.
He added that Binance is better served by allowing new leadership to grow without his return.
