Meta Pauses Teens’ Access to AI Characters Across All Apps
-

Meta announced it is pausing teens’ access to AI characters globally across all of its apps as it works on an updated version with stronger parental controls. The company said the move is temporary and not a retreat from AI development, but part of an effort to redesign the experience for younger users.
Starting in the coming weeks, teens will no longer be able to interact with AI characters, including users who list a teen birthday or are flagged as underage through Meta’s age-prediction systems. Meta said the updated AI characters will deliver age-appropriate responses and focus on topics such as education, sports, and hobbies, with built-in parental oversight once relaunched.
