France Warns of ‘Wrench Attacks’ Following Crypto Data Breach

French cybersecurity authorities have warned that crypto users affected by the Waltio data breach could face serious physical threats, including so-called “wrench attacks.” These attacks involve kidnapping or coercion, sometimes using violence, to force victims or their relatives to transfer cryptocurrency.

Officials noted that similar attacks have occurred in France and other countries after criminals obtained personal data such as names, addresses, and details about crypto holdings. Users were urged to take precautions and report any suspicious contact to law enforcement.

The warning comes as France continues tightening oversight of crypto firms during the EU’s MiCA transition period.
