Uber Eats Ends Freelance Deliveries in Spain Under Government Pressure
-

Uber Eats has confirmed it will stop working with self-employed delivery riders in Spain, bringing an end to years of legal and regulatory tension. The company said the transition will happen “as soon as possible,” after Spanish authorities warned that continuing its freelance model could lead to criminal charges under labor law.
Once the change takes effect, all deliveries will be handled by riders employed through subcontracted fleet companies, not autónomos logging in independently. Uber Eats had been the last major delivery platform in Spain still relying on freelancers, making this move a symbolic turning point for the country’s app-based delivery sector.
