Vitalik Buterin Calls for a “Sovereign Web”

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, is urging developers to rethink how the internet is built. In a Jan. 10 statement, Buterin said the web must move toward a “sovereign” model that protects user independence, privacy and psychological autonomy — not one optimized for corporate data extraction.

He criticized today’s internet as dominated by “corposlop,” where polished branding masks systems designed to harvest attention, data and capital while stripping users of real agency.
